The Montmartre Cathedral is depicted in an unique way. It is “surrounded” by the Pont de Bir Hakeim which has these characteristic archways. The scene looks like a “roll film”: each “photo” is marked by the archways.
Making this photo was challenging, since the Montmartre cathedral is quite far away from the bridge. I had to find the right place and to put the camera on the tripod but also use a telephoto lens. The difficulty is that from the camera the bridge is about 200m away but the Montmartre cathedral about 5km. And it is technically challenging to get all in focus. So I’ve used some advanced techniques which were very time consuming. But that’s part of the commitment to achieving my artistic vision. And I am very happy with the result.
I’ve made this photo in black and white just like in the old film days. Black and white photography has a timeless quality that can evoke a sense of nostalgia and classic elegance. But also because black and white photos reveal shape and form which contributes to the final message of this photo. And I also feel that color would disturb the overall mood.
